Introduction:

Immigration is a complex issue, which can make finding an immigration lawyer difficult. There are many organizations that have lists of lawyers who specialize in immigration law and other specialized areas, but how do you find them? In this article, we’ll cover everything from the American Bar Association (ABA), Department of Justice (DOJ), and Immigration Advocates Network (IAN) to their lists of approved and recognized organizations that can help you locate an immigration lawyer.

The American Bar Association, or ABA

The American Bar Association is a national association of lawyers, judges, and law students. It’s the largest voluntary professional organization in the world with over 400,000 members.

The ABA has over 400 local and state bar associations across the United States that have been accredited by it. Each state has its own rules for becoming a member; however, you can apply to become an associate member by paying $35 per year or $60 if you are interested in being a board member or committee chairperson (this is only allowed if you pass their test).

The Department of Justice

The Department of Justice is the federal government’s largest law enforcement agency. It has many divisions and offices, but one that’s important to you as an immigrant is the Office of Immigration Litigation (OIL). The OIL oversees legal matters related to immigration cases, including asylum applications and removal proceedings.

The main office for OIL is located in Arlington, Virginia, but there are also regional locations throughout the country where you can find assistance with your case if you need it:

  • Washington D.C.: 202-514-2000
  • New York City: 212-904-6400

Immigration Advocates Network

If you’re looking for an immigration lawyer in the United States, Immigration Advocates Network (IAN) is a nonprofit organization that helps immigrants and their families. They have a Find Legal Help service that lists immigration lawyers, paralegals, and other resources available to help with your case. The directory has links to more than 1,300 attorneys across the country who specialize in helping people apply for visas at www.ianlawyerfinders.org/.

How to find a lawyer on the ABA-approved lists

If you’re looking for an immigration lawyer in your area, the ABA-approved lists can be a good place to start. The American Bar Association keeps a database of lawyers and law firms that are approved by the ABA for helping people with immigration issues. You can find this list at:

How to search for a lawyer on the Department of Justice’s list of recognized organizations

The Department of Justice’s list of recognized organizations is a good place to start when searching for a lawyer. You can search by name, location, and specialty area on their website at https://www.justice.gov/jmd/recognized-organizations/.

If you don’t see any attorneys in your area listed on the DOJ website, try searching AILA’s Find a Lawyer service instead. This free service enables users to enter their ZIP code or city and state into its search bar; it will then return results from local lawyers who have agreed to participate in its directory program (called “The Directory”).

How to search for an immigration lawyer with Immigration Advocates Network’s Find Legal Help service

To get started, go to the website and click on the Find Legal Help button at the top of your screen. You will be taken to a page where you can search for an immigration lawyer near you.

In order to find an immigration lawyer, type in your location in the “City” field and hit enter or click on the “Search” button. After that, it will ask you if it’s okay for them (the lawyers) to contact me directly with any questions they have about my case (it’s not necessary). Then fill out all necessary information including contact numbers so they know how we can reach each other during business hours if needed later on down the road!

Different organizations list immigration lawyers. You can browse their lists and websites or you can use their search tools.

You can use these organizations to find immigration lawyers in your area.
